Bedding Brand Buffy Slays Order Processing to Save $191K a Year

For generations, cotton has been the gold standard material when it comes to luxury bedding – fancy hotels don’t boast about the thread count of their sheets for nothing.

However, cotton is notoriously bad for the environment, requiring significant use of fertilizers and pesticides to grow, and huge amounts of water to process.

Eco-friendly e-commerce bedding brand Buffy set out to do things differently.

The Shopify Plus-powered business, founded in New York in 2017, exclusively uses botanic dyes, biodegradable fabrics and recyclable materials that are home-safe and earth-friendly.

The super-soft range of bedding, which includes comforters, sheets and pillows, grew rapidly – doubling its revenue to £30M in just its second year.

It has since established itself as an award-winning, multimillion dollar retailer, with more than 1,000,000 customers and retail placements at Amazon, Nordstrom, Target and Zola.

However, it hasn’t all been smooth snoozing.

Bedding brand bedlam

When the company expanded its product range without a retail operating system in place, it sleepwalked into operational chaos.

“When our product range was tiny, we were able to cope with sending orders to 3PL providers using a Google Sheet,” says Buffy’s CEO, Leo Wang.

“As an e-commerce business, our growth always had to come from assortment expansion – and when that inevitably happened, it caused bedlam with logistics.

“I decided if we were going to overhaul operations once, we should overhaul them for good.
